i'm working again
wet eyes of security lost
she runs the comb through eyelashes clumped with mascara
lights camera splashes
copper tint on her eyes, copper paint on her nails
those bitten with anxiety
those scratches on his back
how funny what ordinary things become weapons
the books and to do lists and dishes pile up
and she steps over laundry to step into the cool water
but no matter how many times
how.many.times
she scrubs
it just won't wash away
not like the photos
not like the notes
and not like the hopes and promises
this is not mine
this is just, not mine
this is not my walk
through my beautiful park
anymore

Color Inspiration
There are many different things that inspire me in my studio, and as much as I love being outdoors, my work is never really landscape oriented. I love to paint people or more abstract things, and the landscape itch just hasn't hit me yet.
I realize though, that the colors of the outside always make it into my palette. On a walk this Saturday I took some photographs for color inspiration. The rusty reds, muted greens, bright blues, and specks of an almost unnatural bright red amidst all of the various green tones caught my eye.
I can't wait to pull these sources into my studio for color inspiration for my next few portraits.
Aren't the colors of Autumn just lovely?
What inspires you?

things I like
{Malomar trying to eat my strawberries!}
{my pup relaxing in the shade}
{pups playing in the water on a hot summer day}
{Walks with mud and grass underfoot, the soothing sounds of water in the distance, and the smell of honeysuckle wafting through the air}
{Visitors from Providence and street art openings in Brooklyn}
Today it is gorgeous out and I am headed to Bushwick Open Studios which I also like!

a soggy walk
but sometimes, the sprinkling of drops turns unexpectedly into downpour....at which time it is helpful to know that right across the street there are trees to take shelter under, mud to sink your shoes into, and a dog that gives kisses on the nose in payment for protective from the rain.

Car-Free
One thing that I like about where I live is that so many people use public transit, bike or walk to where they need to go. When I was growing up in Pennsylvania, I would often bike covered bridge to covered bridge or walk to my friend's houses. We did, however, sort of live in the middle of nowhere so walking to get a coffee was unheard of, walking to the grocery store or to boutiques was just impossible.
This morning, after doing Derby Fit...which by the way was really fun and a great workout! (My quads got their monies worth)...I took Malomar for a long walk to do errands. Not only can I easily walk to a cafe, my optometrist, and to many local grocery stores...I can walk through a wooded area in the park to get to all of these places. NYC isn't all so bad!
Hope your weekend is filled with sun and long walks too!

Thankful Thursday V.8
Walks in my neighborhood,
first thing in the morning...
...and last thing before going to bed.
Going to see the WORST opera ever, only saved by the ability to heckle and say "really?! really?!" with them...
Warm days and lounging in Central Park...
with Malomar...
...and this beautiful lady.
Dinner and catching up with Dominic, who was visiting from Portland.
and this one...

Nature in the City
Even though it was overcast, it was a very nice day today to take a walk in the park, listen to the sounds and snap a few photos. I was in the park for hours wandering around, sort of forgetting that I live in NYC. At one point, I turned the corner and saw a blue heron resting by the water. It flew away swiftly and I wasn't able to snap a photo of it, but it was a beautiful site to see!
Here are some photos from my walk in the park.
Back to my bathroom and kitchen painting adventure: I will give you a little hint:
